About the Role

The Parliament of Canada is seeking a highly skilled Research Librarian to join our team. As a Research Librarian, you will be responsible for providing timely, reliable, and authoritative reference services on a wide range of topics to parliamentarians, including members of the House of Commons, senators, parliamentary associations, and delegations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide reference services in person, over the phone, and by email to parliamentarians and other clients.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to respond to reference requests and conduct research on a wide variety of subjects.
  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of parliamentary and government documents, as well as current affairs and online search tools.
  • Conduct in-depth searches using print and online sources and provide written responses to requests for information.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve organizational goals and provide input to other team members as needed.
Requirements
  • A master's degree in Library and Information Sciences or Library and Information Studies from a recognized university with an ALA-accredited program.
  • Knowledge of or experience conducting in-depth searches using print and online sources.
  • Experience in providing written responses to requests for information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations and to adapt to new ideas and initiatives.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work an evening duty shift every 4-5 weeks (during sitting weeks) from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. They will also be required to obtain a second-language evaluation (bilingual staffing - imperative) as part of the selection process.
