Safety Director North America

The Director North America Safety will provide strategic leadership for safety initiatives across the North American business, including Supply Chain. This role is responsible for implementing cost-effective safety policies, procedures, and management systems to support safety excellence and monitor site-level performance. The Director will identify opportunities for performance improvement and take corrective action, as well as collaborate with Operations management and Environmental counterparts to develop a strong EHS culture.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and direct the safety operations teams across North America phosphate operations, potash operations, and US Distribution, and direct continuous improvement of safety initiatives to reduce work process risks and improve safe work practices.
- Foster a mindset of operational excellence by reviewing audit findings, monitoring leading and lagging indicators, and visiting operations to identify and detect positive and negative trends.
- Build a strong organization by developing people and attracting top talent to the team, and provide work direction and timely and constructive feedback to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their work, roles, business goals, and performance standards.
- Support Mosaic's global EH&S aspirations as an active member of and contributor to the EH&S Leadership team, and take on special projects as required by the team or assigned by senior leadership.
- Represent Mosaic with various boards, commissions, associations, and community groups to maintain and develop professional relations and promote community goodwill.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Public Health, or other related field, with an engineering degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive professional experience in safety, with a minimum of 10 years of safety leadership experience.
- Technical understanding of chemical processing and/or mining operations and beneficiation.
- Demonstrated experience implementing EH&S management systems, processes, and tools across a large number of facilities.
- Insightful about behavior-based safety, with a grasp of concepts and implications of emerging trends.
- Strong safety technical skills, coupled with equally strong people leadership skills.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Professional Engineer, or other relevant certification is a plus.
