Job Summary

As a skilled Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Refrigeration Mechanic with Fraser Health, you will perform complex repairs and maintenance on a variety of systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair pneumatic, electric, electronic, and pressure-operated building control systems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems on various systems, including pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Prepare for work projects by assessing operational and safety risks, arranging work schedules with user departments, and assembling supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Install and repair refrigeration systems, including fridges, freezers, coolers, and ice machines.
  • Operate and program HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including Building Automation Computer Systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and control systems, including replacing bearings and filters, checking fluid and refrigerant levels, and cleaning components.
  • Perform air balancing tests using equipment such as vane anemometers and static pressure equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on general and specialized equipment, including compressors, steam valves, supply and exhaust fans, pumps, and sterilizing equipment.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair gas lines specific to HVAC equipment in accordance with BC Gas Safety Code.
  • Review work requests and consult with user departments regarding specifications and project requirements, interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials and equipment needed.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools, complete related reports and records, and recommend purchases.
  • Assign work tasks to designated staff and provide related training and orientation.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic or equivalent trade.
  • Class B level Gas Fitter's License with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of B.C.
  • Two years' recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, deal with others effectively, read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications, organize work, operate related equipment, and physically perform the duties of the position.
