Reporter-Editor Opportunity

The Canadian Press is seeking a skilled and experienced journalist to join our team as a Reporter-Editor. This is a full-time contract position based in Edmonton, with a duration of one year.

About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic journalist with excellent news judgment and writing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, editing, and gathering content for our various services, including print, audio, and video. They will also be expected to come up with new and creative ways to tell stories on all platforms, generate original story ideas, and work independently to meet tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit news content for various platforms
  • Develop and pitch story ideas to the team
  • Conduct research and gather information for stories
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve and refine content
  • Work under tight deadlines to meet publication schedules

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a real-time newsroom
  • Strong news judgment and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent research and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
