Job Title: Senior Accountant

Baker Tilly is a leading association of Chartered Professional Accounting firms in Canada, and an independent member of Baker Tilly International. Our Owen Sound office is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Accountant with a strong background in public accounting and a passion for excellence. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in public accounting or a similar finance role, and will be responsible for managing large engagements, preparing financial statements, and providing timely and high-quality client service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compilation and review of client information and working paper file preparation
  • Year-end planning for various clients
  • Supervising engagements and related tax filings within a paperless office environment
  • Completion of assurance engagements with teams of 1 – 4 team members
  • Identification of KPIs through technology
  • Identifying and resolving engagement issues
  • Training and mentoring junior staff on engagements
  • Preparation of Notice to Reader and Review Engagement reports
  • Preparation of personal tax returns
  • Ensuring the clients' satisfaction with the firm's services
Requirements:
  • A college or university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in public accounting or a similar finance role
  • CPA designation or in progress would be considered a strong asset
  • Experience managing large engagements
  • Tech savvy; proven technical skills in accounting
  • In-depth working knowledge of accounting and tax
  • Sound working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Advanced accounting, tax, and software knowledge, i.e.: Tax Prep, CaseWare, Sage and QuickBooks
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and accurate, attention to detail is critical to this role
  • A strong work ethic, and thrive on challenges
  • Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation to work independently in a high-volume work environment
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and efficiently
