Youth Care Worker

Join School District #57 (Prince George) as a Replacement Youth Care Worker and make a positive impact on the lives of students with emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties.
About the Role:The Youth Care Worker will work under the direction of a teacher or administrator to develop and implement individual education plans for students with unique challenges. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, students, and their families.
- Conduct home and community visits to support students and their families.
- Assist in the development and implementation of specific academic and social interventions with students who present unique and challenging behaviors.
- Provide guidance and support to students and their families.
- Organize and participate in field trips and other special events.
- Provide transportation as needed.
- Assist the teacher in evaluating and reporting on individual students.
- Regularly participate in screening and review meetings as required.
- Regularly communicate with parents and community agencies under the direction of the teacher/administrator.
- Grade 12 education.
- Two-year diploma/certificate (60 credits) from any accredited college or university in areas related to child or youth care and counselling.
- Two years of experience (which includes one year experience in the public education system) with exceptional children or youth in the appropriate age range.
- Valid British Columbia driver's license.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to follow directions with regard to individualized education plans and the dispensing of medication.
- Ability to deal with very challenging behaviors on a daily basis within an emotionally and physically demanding environment.
- Requires mature judgement in ensuring that the YCW provides services only in those areas in which he/she possesses the required skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate school equipment (e.g. recorders, computers, etc.).
- Basic computer knowledge skills required.
The Youth Care Worker will work in a school setting, interacting with students, teachers, and other staff members. The role requires the ability to lift, transfer, and assist students as required.
