About the Role

Grand River Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our Prevention and Genetic Counselling Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing consultation, assessment, and follow-up of genetic testing for individuals and families referred to our service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Genetic Counseling and Testing: Provide consultation, assessment, and follow-up of genetic testing for individuals and families referred to our service.
  • Program Development: Participate in the planning and ongoing development of the preventive oncology program, ensuring the vision and goals of the program are congruent with those of the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.
  • Leadership and Education: Provide leadership within the cancer program in the area of prevention and screening, and provide education and support to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Liaise with colleagues provincially, nationally, and internationally to ensure that the practices within the preventive oncology program meet provincial and national standards and best practice.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's of Science in Genetic Counseling required.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years experience in genetic counseling preferred.
  • Certification: Canadian Association of Genetic Counselors and/or American Board of Genetic Counseling certification (or eligibility for certification at next examination) required.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team, excellent organizational skills, and experience in program development and patient education.
