About the Opportunity:

The Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Transport Canada inspected passenger vessels. This includes ensuring the safety and security of the crew and passengers, as well as maintaining a high level of profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rotate as cruise captain on cruises and ensure adherence to procedures detailed in the Product Management Guide.
  • Gather pertinent cruise event details from other departments to ensure special guest requests are fulfilled.
  • Conduct pre-cruise meetings and communicate to crew all necessary information regarding the cruise.
  • Ensure that staff and guests adhere to all safety standards and procedures.
  • Participate in the execution of the Safety Management System (SMS), including emergency drills.
  • Monitor all of the ship's systems and boarding facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to Transport Canada rules and regulations, and other federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Execute other projects as assigned by management.

Operations Team Management:

  • Deliver training to new crew.
  • Adhere to Company's performance management guidelines for all discipline.
  • Develop positive working relationships with city department heads and peers.
  • Develop strong teamwork within the staff.

Guest Service:

  • Resolve guest problems utilizing strong guest service skills and exercising effective communication skills.
  • Oversee the implementation and execution of safety programs in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and established Company policies.

Administration:

  • Complete all shift records: checklist, logbook, forms, and documentation.
  • Ensure that incident reports are completed accurately and promptly.
  • Execute collateral duties as assigned by Marine Management.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must currently possess master limited for a vessel of 60 gross tonnage or more license, higher license preferred.
  • Current Marine Basic First Aid.
  • Must hold a valid passport to be able to enter the United States.
  • Current (within previous two (2) years) Transport Canada approved marine medical certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of marine experience with an outstanding record.
  • Detailed working knowledge of all ship's systems and their proper maintenance.
  • Must be able to operate vessel in accordance with all Transport Canada rules and procedures.
  • Vessel handling and navigation knowledge required.
  • Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Able to effectively deal with internal and external guests.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks.
