Job Summary

This position is responsible for reviewing and assessing the suitability of land use and developments with respect to hazards such as flooding, erosion, and bank instability. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Senior Flood Protection Planning Officer to review private land subdivisions, crown land proposals, development plans, and zoning by-laws, and provide design flood information to the public, consultants, and other government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess land use and development proposals for compliance with flood risk management policies and regulations.
  • Provide design flood information to the public, consultants, and other government agencies.
  • Work with developers, architects, and engineers to ensure that their proposals meet flood risk management requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to assess flood risk and provide recommendations for mitigation measures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including developers, community groups, and other government agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in flood risk management policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in geography, land use planning, or resource management, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in ESRI ArcGIS software, geospatial databases, applications, and tools.
  • Experience in land use planning, flood risk management, and hydrology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical and non-technical reports and correspondence.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
