Job Overview and Responsibilities

Purpose of the Job:

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the activities of direct and indirect hourly employees, ensuring the execution of a daily work schedule with proper systems and priority.

The supervisor must provide necessary tools and resources, enforce plant rules, administer labor contracts, and motivate employees to achieve proficiency on assigned projects.

Background and Experience:

  • Educational requirements include a diploma with a technical background in welding, machining, materials, or other fabrication-related fields.
  • Five years of experience in a manufacturing or repair position is required.
  • Technical skills must include knowledge of machining, cost control, manufacturing processes, and shop floor control.
  • The ideal candidate should possess analytical analysis capability, problem-solving techniques, and strong communication skills.
  • Computer literacy skills are also necessary.

Job Responsibilities and Competencies:

  • Direct and control activities such as shop floor manufacturing, production schedules, and quality control.
  • Develop motivational and developmental procedures to improve employee performance.
  • Initiate methods to control efficiency levels of machining operations and minimize costs.
  • Create monitoring procedures to control scrap and rework costs.
  • Assist Project Management in solving quality, manufacturing, and design problems.
  • Participate in plant layout changes and implement good housekeeping practices.
  • Administer employee training programs and participate in the hiring or discharging of personnel.
