Genetic Counsellor, Medical Genetics, Neurology and Immunology Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counsellor to join our team at PHSA. As a Genetic Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing genetic counseling to individual patients and their families, working closely with our medical professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and prepare patient care history files through interviews with patients and family members, analyzing inheritance patterns and summarizing data.
- Provide genetic counseling and support to patients and family members, discussing concerns and providing information about genetic disorders, inheritance patterns, and genetic testing options.
- Dictate letters to communicate with referring and family physicians, detailing genetic session recommendations and cosigned by medical professionals.
- Serve as a liaison between referring physicians, patients, and medical genetic physicians, ensuring understanding of counseling issues and follow-up recommendations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, providing counseling, expertise, and recommendations based on medical genetics standards of care.
Requirements:
- Masters degree in Medical Genetics or Genetic Counselling, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience with two years recent related genetic experience.
- Board certified for certification with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors and/or American Board of Genetic Counselling.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, deal effectively with patient/families in crisis, and operate related equipment such as computerized genetic databases/information systems.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments, and commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
