Opportunity: Geoscience Data Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Geoscience Data Technologist to join our Technical Geoscience team in Calgary. This full-time position will provide essential support throughout ARC's core districts, contributing to the success of our geoscience operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and test internally developed geo-analytical tools and platforms.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure critical objectives are met, managing workflows through regular communication, meetings, work planning, and opportunity prioritization.
  • Support technical team Geoscientists by managing geotechnical projects in various software applications, including data curation, loading, quality control, and importing/exporting data between programs.
  • Prepare maps and reports for teams related to reservoir quality, data coverage, volumetrics, and other relevant geological parameters.
  • Condition data for analytical consumption and ensure data integrity throughout the process.
  • Verify, refine, and improve how geoscience data flows across the company, upholding data governance rules such as consistent nomenclature, units, and file types.
  • Work with service providers to ensure incoming datasets align with ARC's data formatting and standards policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and expand the corporate geoscience database (well, LAS, core, diagnostics, etc.).
  • Write basic SQL queries to enable teams to access data from available databases.
  • Enhance and customize Spotfire and PowerBI dashboards that link subsurface information to other disciplines for internal consumption.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Geoscience or Geological Technician/Technologist roles within the oil and gas industry, ideally accompanied by a Geoscience Technology diploma.
  • Proven experience working with subsurface geoscience data (wells, tops, core, LAS, SEGY, Microseismic, etc.).
  • Knowledge of LAS logs and creating templates using geoSCOUT LAS Datamanager and IHS Datamanager is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with various software applications used in geotechnical analysis and data management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
