About the Opportunity

Maple Leaf Foods is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join its finance team. As a key member of the plant operations team, you will provide financial leadership and support to both finance and plant management teams.

Job Description

This role involves close collaboration with plant management to identify and implement opportunities for improving results and controls within the plant. You will leverage your strong professional and technical background to deliver analytical and financial expertise through monthly reporting, variance analysis, system optimization, and adherence to financial policies and procedures.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
  • Accounting and Compliance: Ensure accounting procedures adhere to IFRS and approved corporate policies. Provide guidance and coaching to non-finance managers on financial control and compliance issues.
  • Inventory and Purchasing Control: Act as the on-site custodian to ensure critical inventory and purchasing procedures are controlled. Responsible for Quarterly Self-Test submissions and/or remediate any control failures. Support Maintenance and Material Control with regular inventory cycle count reviews, re-counts, and random verification checks as needed.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Support period-end financial activities, ensuring adherence to tight month-end schedules. Prepare closing journal entries and complete account reconciliations. Interpret financial results, providing key insights and explanations of variances. Optimize finance applications and transactional databases for accurate and timely financial processing and reporting.
  • Cost Improvement and Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify, recommend, and support cost improvement opportunities. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lead financial tracking for savings.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 3-5 years Finance background in a manufacturing environment.
  • Completed bachelor's degree – ideally with specialization in business finance or accounting.
  • Technology savvy individual with excellent aptitude for working in information systems modeling and analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, manufacturing and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships with business partners and team.
