About the Role:
The BC SPCA is seeking a skilled Animal Care Attendant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of the animals in our care, including providing optimal levels of care based on the Five Freedoms.
As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with others to maintain a clean, sanitary, and efficient environment for both animals and staff. You will also provide support to our front office staff, answering counter inquiries, receiving animals for surrender, and assisting with adoption procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will require a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License, and a demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare. You will also need to possess a sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, and common diseases, as well as basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with front office routines.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the kennels, runs, and cat cages in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner
- Treat animals humanely, with compassion and concern, and transmit these values to others
- Administer medications as specified by the animal health technologist or other authorized shelter staff
- Perform other duties necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter
Key Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract
- Demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare
- Knowledge of the geography of the Branch's warrant area and the Shelter's warrant area
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, and common diseases
- Ability to work as a team player and possess well-developed interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with front office routines
