Job Title: Recreation Worker, Uncertified

Job Summary:

The Recreation Worker, Uncertified will develop and implement recreation programs that promote the health, wellness, and recovery of clients. This role will work collaboratively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to provide services that align with Prairie Mountain Health's vision, mission, and values.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development: Plan, organize, and implement activity and recreation programs for clients and participants.
  • Group Activities: Organize and implement group activities that cater to clients' interests, needs, and wishes.
  • Instruction and Guidance: Provide instruction for selected tasks to develop knowledge and abilities.
  • Communication: Communicate information with interdisciplinary team members regarding client progress and revise plans as required.
  • Client-Centered Activities: Develop and implement creative activities for individuals and groups based on client interests, needs, and wishes.
  • Partnerships: Engage with and work with external partners as appropriate for the development of activities and recreational events.
  • Client Safety: Ensure activity and recreational events are client-focused and related to the physical and mental wellbeing of the client.
  • Medical Restrictions: Ensure that diagnosed or medical restrictions are followed during the activity and recreation event.
  • Calendar Development: Develop the monthly recreation/activity calendar.
  • Supply Management: Estimate, obtain, and adapt space, equipment, and supplies necessary to conduct scheduled activities.
  • Record Keeping: Complete appropriate records/documentation, including statistics as required.
  • Reporting: Maintain activity program statistics and provide monthly reports.
  • Supply Inventory: Ensure a sufficient inventory of supplies are available to meet the activity program requirements by maintaining records of supplies used and requisitioning for replacements as needed.
  • Crisis Intervention: Assess the potential for crisis situations and intervene to de-escalate/defuse situations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure equipment is used safely, stored appropriately, and maintained in good working order.

Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 education (MB Standards) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two (2) years recent relevant experience working directly with clients in a health care or recovery environment.
  • Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
  • Personal Qualities: Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to work independently, problem-solving and decision-making skills, flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures, communication skills, ability to respect and promote confidentiality, and ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, and within interdisciplinary teams.
