About the JobThis is an excellent chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and families. As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you will perform intake assessments, crisis interventions, and direct patient care to psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department and/or MH&SUS zone.
You will work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team to develop person-centered and recovery-oriented care plans, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible outcomes.
Responsibilities- Receive referrals from various internal and external sources, including the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC), the general Emergency Department, Pediatric Emergency Department, and Mental Health/Substance Use Zone.
- Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems.
- Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Department Physician or consulting Psychiatrist, and provide general and crisis counseling to patients and their families, in accordance with approved treatment plans.
- Evaluate the psychiatric nursing care needs of assigned patients and provide direct psychiatric nursing care, identifying preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects of care.
- Collaborate and consult with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers in the hospital and community to adapt care plans to address psychiatric needs.
- Document assessments, care plans, observations, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluation, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A degree in Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- At least one year of recent experience in an acute or community Mental Health & Substance Use setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families/caregivers, and members of the interprofessional care team.
