About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with coordinating coverage for various prescription medications.

Responsibilities will include guiding staff and patients through forms for insurers, Pharmacare programs, and pharmaceutical-sponsored Patient Assistance Programs. You will work closely with other Registered Pharmacy Technicians to meet with patients, consult with physicians and nursing staff, track Special Authorization requests, liaise with community pharmacies, insurers, patient assistance programs and pharmacare by phone, manage and track compassionate/sample stock, and manage data.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in pharmacy technology, preferably with experience in a hospital setting. A graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) are required. Experience with drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) and knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are assets.

We also value candidates with experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, and knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, full-time position with a 75-hour bi-weekly schedule. The successful candidate will be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

The hourly rate for this position is $27.89, with the possibility of a higher rate for Pharmacy Practice Assistants. We are committed to providing a competitive compensation package and a positive work environment.
