Electrical Power Systems Specialist

Canadian Pacific Railway (CPKC) is a leading North American railway company, connecting Canada, the U.S., and Mexico through its 20,000-mile network. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Specialist to join our team.

Job Summary

This position provides professional engineering expertise in the rehabilitation, design, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical power systems used in the day-to-day operations of CPKC's Signal and Communications (S&C) equipment. The successful candidate will direct and coordinate the design, maintenance, repair, and construction of S&C electrical facilities across the network.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Direct and coordinate the design, maintenance, repair, and construction of S&C electrical facilities across the network.
  2. Assist in making decisions regarding company expenditures, capital improvement programs, signal power, and related components and material purchases.
  3. Oversee and direct the electrical power tunnel ventilation and other S&C facilities to maintain all required aspects assigned of the train control system.
  4. Establish and oversee a departmental operating budget and a capital improvement program.
  5. Review applications for utilities to construct power facilities and transmission lines in close proximity to CPKC network.
  6. Perform field inspections at affected work locations in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, as required.
  7. Provide feedback and assist with electrical power aspects of other S&C departments' projects, as required.
  8. Work directly with key stakeholders including signal maintainers, technicians, laborers, local, provincial, and federal government groups, railroad material suppliers, consultants, contractors, adjoining landowners, railroad shippers, and other railroad managers.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline from an accredited University.
  2. Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States.
  3. 10-15 years' experience in electrical and/or North American railroad signaling or train control.
  4. Experience with power systems and North American electrical codes, electrical motor, and fan controls.
  5. Must possess a valid driver's license.
  6. Valid passport with the ability to travel to domestic locations, the U.S., and Mexico.

Management Conductor Program
