About the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB)

The CMRB is a collaborative regional economic development initiative consisting of eight member municipalities.

This initiative aims to position the Calgary Metropolitan Region as the most attractive place in North America to invest and grow businesses in our regionally significant sectors.

The consortium has created terms for collaboration, with a partner charter and funding model developed to support regional economic development.

**IGC Secretariat Role**

The contractor will lead the establishment and operations of the IGC Secretariat, working directly with the IGC Advisory Committee to deliver a strategic plan over the 3-year pilot period.

This role will focus on partner engagement and project development, ensuring alignment with regional priorities and funding commitments.

The contractor will report to the IGC Advisory Committee and receive advisory support from Calgary Economic Development (CED) on governance and project development, as well as access to resources.

**Deliverables and Outcomes**

Within the 3-year pilot Secretariat term, the contractor must deliver:

  • Up to 5 regional projects

**Business Plan Development**

The contractor will develop and execute a business plan in alignment with the IGC's vision and purpose.

The contractor will inform and advise the IGC Advisory committee on project direction and developments using an evidence-based approach.

The contractor will monitor regional economic trends and provide feedback on recommendations to strengthen the region's competitive advantage.

The contractor will contribute to the evaluation of a sustainable IGC model, including exploration of regional economic development models and funding approaches.

**Collaboration and Partnership**

The contractor will cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with regional partners, including local government agencies, businesses, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions.

The contractor will develop and implement strategies for enhancing regional partnerships, ensuring shared goals and collective success in economic growth.

The contractor will work closely with partners to identify regional needs, opportunities, and challenges, and develop tailored solutions to address them collectively.

The contractor will organize regional meetings and workshops for partners and partake in events to strengthen relationships and promote regional economic development.

**Financial Management**

The contractor will manage Secretariat financials of the pilot's budget and funding streams.

The contractor will regularly report back to regional and funding partners on Secretariat progress and provide financial reporting.

The contractor will develop Requests for Proposals and work with third party vendors to support project deliverables, as needed.

The contractor will maintain accurate records and documentation of secretariat activities, research and communications.

**Project Coordination**

  • The contractor will lead and manage the planning, execution, and completion of multiple economic development projects on behalf of IGC, ensuring alignment with regional investment attraction objectives.
  • The contractor will oversee project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation, ensuring projects stay on track and within financial parameters while meeting project goals.
  • The contractor will track the progress of regional projects, providing regular updates and reports to the IGC committee and funding agencies.
  • The contractor will identify areas for process improvement within project management workflows, implementing best practices to enhance future project outcomes.

**Ideal Candidate Profile**

Candidates should have strong stakeholder relations, be collaborative in finding solutions and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates should have a passion for the Calgary region and be excited at the prospect of bringing regionally significant opportunities to the Calgary region by promoting investment attraction initiatives.

Candidates should have relevant experience, preferably in economic and/or regional development, with progressive responsibilities and a strong education background.

Candidates should have project management experience and strong presentation skills.

Candidates should have knowledge of the Calgary region and government landscape, as well as land use planning and policies.
