We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Career Development Specialist to join our team at Njoyn. As a key member of our Career Integrated Learning department, you will play a vital role in supporting the diverse student population at our institution.
Key Responsibilities- Student Support: Provide individualized career counselling appointments, in-person and virtual career development workshops, and larger campus-wide events to support students in exploring, identifying, and evaluating career goals.
- Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough needs assessments, understanding psycho-social factors of students, and apply a holistic student-centered counselling approach to support students in developing a plan to achieve their career goals.
- Career Counselling: Utilize career counselling interventions specific to a student's unique needs to support career decision-making and manage career and personal circumstances that affect career choices.
- Assessment Administration: Administer and interpret a variety of level A & B standardized career assessment inventories, including the MBTI and the SII, to assist students in exploring career options and making career decisions.
- Career Information: Source and provide information on specific job and career paths, as well as current Canadian occupational and labour market information, to support students in making informed career choices.
- Collaboration: Partner with academic faculties on projects related to career education, weave employability and career education into curriculum and programming, and develop and facilitate career education curriculum on various topics.
- Event Planning: Organize, promote, and participate in small and large events, including orientation and transition programs, educational sessions, and other career-related activities.
- Communication: Liaise with Sheridan managers, faculty, and staff on topics such as student retention, career clarity, persistence, and career education, and maintain up-to-date student case notes and data.
- Education: Master's degree in counselling psychology, psychology, career development, social work, or other closely related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience counselling in an educational or community-based setting with a focus on career counselling/career education, working with a diverse range of students/clients.
- Compliance: Compliance with the Canadian Standards & Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners.
- Career Assessments: Solid understanding of and experience using a diverse range of career counselling theories and modalities to assess student's career readiness and goals, and experience with and certified to administer and interpret level A and B career assessments, including the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII).
- Labour Market Trends: Detailed knowledge of and ability to source career information, labour market trends and projections, and post-secondary education options in Ontario, Canada, and abroad.
- Technical Skills: Comfortable using a variety of online tools to conduct virtual meetings and presentations, and ability to learn online systems used by Sheridan.
- Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of MS Office.
