Job Summary

Providence Health Care is seeking a skilled New Patient Referral Clerk to join our Health Information Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for receiving, recording, and processing physician referrals and re-referrals, determining outpatient appointment priority, and booking related appointments and special procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and process physician referrals and re-referrals, including recording and entering relevant information into our computerized information system.
  • Determine outpatient appointment priority based on patient information, such as patient history, test results, and pertinent reports.
  • Book new patient appointments, including reviewing triage records, assigning modality, and communicating with physicians.
  • Perform pre-registration duties, such as printing new patient lists, pulling referrals, and attaching check sheets.
  • Review patient needs and refer to appropriate services or arrange accordingly.

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Two years' recent, related experience completing referrals or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
