About the Role

Astellas Pharma Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Data Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our data engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining comprehensive data streaming architecture strategies tailored to the needs of Clinical and Operational data management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Architecture and Engineering: Develop and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform clinical data from various sources.
  • Data Strategy and Governance: Develop and implement data strategies to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of clinical data.
  • ETL and Data Integration: Lead all data engineering tasks and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure efficient data flow and transformation.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize data workflows and performance through automation, parallel processing, and data partitioning techniques.
  • Scalability and Security: Design scalable data pipeline architectures to handle large volumes of clinical data and implement security controls, encryption mechanisms, redaction logic, and access management policies to protect sensitive data.
  • Compliance and Regulatory: Ensure data compatibility and compliance with industry standards such as HL7, FHIR, ICH M11, and others, and monitor compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and other data privacy laws.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams including data managers, clinical leads, statisticians, statistical programmers, researchers, and regulatory experts to understand requirements and priorities for clinical data management and analysis.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Documentation: Document data architecture designs, technical specifications, and operational procedures to facilitate knowledge transfer and support ongoing maintenance and enhancements.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience working in data architecture, engineering roles or related roles within a healthcare industry.
  • Skills: Data architecture and engineering experience, expertise in data pipeline design, data modelling, and data integration techniques, proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data management and analysis, such as SQL, SAS, Python, or R, and expertise in working with databases and data warehousing technologies.
