  • Install refrigeration systems, including measuring and laying out reference points for installation.
  • Interpret blueprints or other instructions to plan methods or sequences of operation.
  • Troubleshoot heating systems and refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components.
  • Coach and instruct apprentices.
  • Measure, cut, and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Start up system and test for leaks using testing devices.
  • Perform maintenance, including recharging system with refrigerant, checking and testing regulators, or calibrating system.
  • Interpret gas codes.
  • Handle, recover, and store refrigerants.
  • Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, or heat pump systems.
Requirements:
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade Certification.
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clearance Certificate.
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Red Seal Certificate.
  • Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certificate.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
Work Environment:

The work environment is physically demanding, with frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling. The work site is noisy, hot, and cold/refrigerated.
