About This Role

We are seeking an IT Technologist to join our team at 19 Wing Comox. As part of the Fixed Wing Search & Rescue (FWSAR) Operational Training Unit (OTU), you will be responsible for delivering training and engineering support, as well as on-site maintenance, high system availability, and responsiveness to customer requirements.

This position will provide IT and LAN support for the training centre classrooms, training devices, maintenance and information systems, scheduling system, course management system, and to the ISS staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the local office for technical support, basic troubleshooting for computer setup, server support, phone system support, and patching of server infrastructure.
  • Providing first-line technical support to computer users experiencing difficulties with computer hardware and with computer applications and communications software.
  • Supporting specialized applications, such as SharePoint, scripting, or other tasks.
  • Providing desktop support to the team in Comox.
  • Building computers per guidelines that are provided, including checklists.
  • Interacting directly with end-users for basic support and arranging 2nd level support if required.
  • Workstation and classroom setup, teardown, and moves.

Mandatory qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education and 5-6 years related work experience.
  • MCP certification.
  • Expertise in one or two disciplines, such as SharePoint.
  • Intermediate knowledge of office applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of desktop operating systems (MS).
  • Advanced network knowledge (TCP/IP, hubs, switches, routers).
  • Intermediate understanding of printers.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of office computer equipment for the purpose of ordering and providing guidance for purchasing.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada as a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or with a valid Work Permit.
  • Capability of obtaining and maintaining Controlled Goods and Secret security clearances.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • MCSE or multiple MCPs.
