Job Title: Director Finance

At VON Canada, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director Finance to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and guidance to support the organization's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to optimize the return on company's assets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, aligning the finance value proposition with the strategic outcomes of the business units.
  • Implement effective internal controls and risk management strategies to safeguard the company's assets.
  • Optimize the delivery of professional financial and accounting services with a focus on customer centricity.
  • Ensure finance resources (including systems and people) are effectively and efficiently deployed, aligning talent competencies, professional development and training opportunities.
  • Develop and implement professional accounting standards for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and external reporting requirements for charitable organizations.
  • Lead the process for preparing monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy within the established timelines.
  • Ensure all balance sheets accounts are reconciled, analyzed and are fully supported with the appropriate audit evidence.
  • Lead the process for preparing external funder reporting, ensuring accuracy and delivery of reports within the established timelines.
  • Lead the process to prepare all audit requirements and ensure they are accurately prepared and within the pre-established timelines.
  • Provide responses to inquiries from auditors.
  • Prepare complex financial analysis supporting operations and corporate services departments in their decision-making processes as required.
  • Oversee the preparation of the operational budgets including: support to the Site Operations departments and Finance Managers or Corporate Services departments in preparing annual budgets.
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual audit templates that support the preparation of the annual audited financial statements.
  • Review and implement control processes to ensure accuracy in the financial statements.
  • Attend finance meetings to support site operations in their review of financial results and understanding actual variances compared to budget.
  • Participate as a team member in project teams and committees as required, including the SAP working group, and priority.
Requirements:
  • Post-Secondary Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
  • A Professional accounting designation as a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA)
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience, including a minimum of 3 years' experience managing people within a finance department and experience in financial reporting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian GAAP, specifically in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience implementing process improvements.
  • Experience with SAP, Board, Cognos, Procura and AlayaCare is considered an asset.

Other:

  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas.

Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
