Data Science Expert for Tax Classification

At Amazon, we're dedicated to delivering the best possible experience for our customers. Our Tax Platform Services team plays a critical role in this effort, responsible for developing and maintaining the systems that calculate taxes for all Amazon sales, globally.
We're seeking an experienced Applied Scientist to join our team, focusing on machine learning leadership to improve tax classification accuracy for products in our global catalogue. This is an exciting opportunity to work with large language models, build predictive models, and reason with system changes to identify causal determinants. You will apply generative AI to model outcomes from sparse data and help us innovate new ways to enhance the tax classification experience for our global customers.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field, along with 3+ years of experience building models for business applications. They should also be familiar with algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing, and Unix/Linux environments. Experience in professional software development, NLP, language modeling, and/or GenAI is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead machine learning initiatives to improve tax classification accuracy
- Design and develop predictive models using large language models

Requirements:
