The Home Helper provides essential homemaking services to individuals and families in their homes or at the time of discharge from hospital, adhering to VON policies, procedures, and quality & risk management standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform light housekeeping duties, including dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, and laundry, to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Prepare meals and conduct environmental risk assessments to ensure client safety.
- Provide companionship and conversation to clients, promoting social interaction and emotional well-being.
- Assist clients with walking and provide stabilization as needed.
- Remind clients of medication and appointment schedules.
- Evaluate and observe clients' homes, personal situations, and care plans to identify areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the development of care plans with the Coordinator.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding client needs and management.
- High school graduate.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide certification an asset.
- 2-3 years' experience working with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Household management or professional customer service experience preferred.
This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in this role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
