Accountant, Development Accounting Opportunity

This is an exciting chance for a highly motivated and self-starting Accountant to join a dynamic and collaborative organization. Our client is a leading rental housing company with a growing portfolio of single-family homes and multi-family apartments in Canada and the US.

The Accountant, Development Accounting will be responsible for the Company's Canadian residential developments. Key duties and responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate development and construction treasury and payables processes, including reviewing development invoices and preparing capital draws.
  • Account and report on development cost spend to relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor loan accounts, including construction draws, interest payments, loan renewals, and quarterly loan compliance.
  • Monitor and report on development management fee revenue.
  • Assist with review of monthly financial reports from property and development managers.
  • Perform month-end close processes, including preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, etc.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual audited financial statements, including note disclosures, and assist in quarterly review and annual audit process.
  • Liaise with the development team, property managers, developers, equity partners, lenders, and other external parties.
  • Assist with and/or lead special and ad hoc projects as necessary.

Requirements:
  • University degree in Finance or accounting.
  • Must be a CPA or on track to become a CPA.
  • A self-starter who is able to work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and adheres to high standards for work quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with good work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
