About the Role

This position is part of a provincial program providing genetic counselling to individuals and their family members. As a Medical Geneticist - Hereditary Cancer Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting interviews with patients, explaining hereditary cancer patterns, and recommending cancer screening based on family history and standard guidelines.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and complete patient medical and family histories through in-depth interviews.
  • Explain genetic susceptibility testing and associated benefits and harms.
  • Contact external genetic counselling centres for out-of-province family members as required.
  • Document patient information, including personal and family medical history, risk assessments, and progress reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A graduate degree in Genetic Counselling or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a similar role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Board eligibility or certification with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors or the American Board of Genetic Counselling.
