Purpose

Rocky Mountaineer, the world's largest privately-owned luxury passenger rail service, is seeking a Steward to join our team. As a Steward, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests.

The Steward reports to the Sous Chef and is responsible for ensuring the availability of clean dishes and supporting other team members with tasks as required. This position is deemed Safety Sensitive and requires the incumbent to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, team members, the public, property, or the environment.

Key Areas of Accountability

Execution of Daily Duties:

  • Provide fast and efficient sanitation of all dishes and equipment to support daily services.
  • Keep workstation and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Clean kitchen floors, storage areas, and remove trash.
  • Assist with food preparation as required for service.

Collaboratively work in a team environment

  • Able to adapt if required to work in multiple railcars with varying teams over a 4- or 6-day trip.
  • Able to adapt to a small kitchen galley environment on a moving train.
  • Demonstrate strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively both unsupervised and in a team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Maintain health and Safety standards

  • Handle ingredients correctly and follow food safety regulations about temperatures and cross-contamination.
  • Practice proper hand-washing technique and use gloves correctly when required to wear them.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitization of all kitchen equipment and workstation areas.
  • Personal hygiene is of the utmost importance.
  • Report safety issues to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Comply with railway safety standards.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Knowledge

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BC Food Safe certified preferred.
  • Fluency in English language.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year restaurant dishwashing experience required.

Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize what needs to be done.
  • Accuracy and speed in executing tasks.
  • Maintains a commitment to food safety.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
