Job Title: Educational Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team at the Simcoe County District School Board. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, promoting inclusive learning environments, and contributing to the success of our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in regular classroom settings and the learning centre.
  • Assist students with toileting, lifting, and mobility as required, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management systems (BMS).
  • Use assistive technology and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies to support students with complex communication needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in areas such as behavior management, assistive technology, and inclusive education.
Requirements:
  • Relevant university degree or a two-year college diploma in the human services field (e.g., Behavioural Sciences, Child and Youth Worker, Child Care Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant - Special Needs Support, Human Services Administration, Registered Nurse, Sign Language Communicator, Sign Language Interpreter, Social Service Worker, or an Ontario Teaching Certificate).
  • Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training and experience working with students with ASD and behavior management techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
