About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Archaeologist to join our team as a Field Archaeology Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating archaeological assessments, preparing technical reports, and contributing to environmental impact assessments. You will also mentor junior staff, provide quality assurance on fieldwork and documentation, and engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous communities to support responsible project planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and lead a team to complete cultural resource surveys, archaeological excavations, and site evaluations.
- Oversee and conduct background research, site record reviews, and archaeological assessments.
- Evaluate compliance with federal, provincial, and territorial regulations, including the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and relevant heritage conservation acts.
- Prepare and review technical reports, including cultural resource management plans, environmental impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
- Oversee artifact collection, cataloging, and curation in accordance with industry best practices.
- Mentor junior archaeologists and field technicians.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous communities to address cultural resource concerns.
- Develop and implement research designs and methodologies for field investigations.
- Analyze and interpret archaeological data using GIS, remote sensing, and other analytical tools.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and planners on multidisciplinary projects.
- Present findings at professional conferences, client meetings, and public outreach events.
Requirements
- Postgraduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Professional archaeological license in Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in cultural resource management.
- Demonstrated expertise in federal, provincial, and territorial cultural resource laws and regulations.
- Experience leading field teams and managing large-scale archaeological projects.
- Strong technical writing skills, with a proven ability to produce high-quality reports.
- Proficiency in GIS, GPS mapping, and other relevant analytical tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients, agencies, and Indigenous communities, and experience in stakeholder engagement.
