We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Dentist to join our team at the Durham Region Health Department.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will provide clinical dental services to clients who are eligible to receive care through federally, provincially, and regionally funded dental programs in the Durham Region Oral Health Clinic.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide general dental clinical care, including examinations, radiographs, restorations, crowns, root canals, extractions, and denture care.
- Treat patients with complex medical histories, disabilities, or behavioral problems.
- Deal with emergency dental conditions and provide urgent care as required.
- Act as a team leader in the clinical setting, ensuring effective teamwork, open communication, and efficient patient flow.
- Monitor and perform best practices for infection prevention and control.
- Work collaboratively with other dentists, denturists, and dental hygienists to ensure seamless access to care.
- Resolve conflicts with staff, patients, and the public when necessary.
- Educate the public on oral health and Public Health dental program policies and guidelines.
- Represent the Division in the community.
- Enforce regional and departmental policies and implement new policies as required.
- Support Human Resources management by enforcing Regional, Departmental, and Division policies and practices.
- Adhere to and support corporate occupational health and safety policies, programs, and directives.
- A Degree in Dentistry from an accredited or recognized Faculty of Dentistry.
- A certificate to practice dentistry in Ontario, from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (certification in good standing must be maintained throughout employment).
- A minimum of 2 years' practice experience, with preference given to candidates who have dental public health or hospital experience treating medically compromised patients with urgent needs.
- Knowledge of and experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, or other databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS), and an understanding of practice within a public setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proven customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse and various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership skills coupled with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with minimal supervision.
- Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the target population.
- An understanding of privacy laws and issues pertaining to informed consent.
- The ability to adapt and respond to a changing environment.
- A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and use of a vehicle.
- Multilingualism would be considered an asset.
