Laborer - Hampden Sydney AHQ

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Laborer to join our team at the Hampden Sydney Area Headquarters of the VDOT Lynchburg District. As a Laborer, you will perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform flagging operations
• Assist in setting up work zones
• Perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools
• Operate light and medium equipment

Requirements:

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway maintenance and repair
• Valid driver's license
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools
• Ability to read, follow oral and written instructions

Additional Considerations:

• Experience in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance
• A combination of training, experience, or education in Maintenance, Construction, or related field
• Experience with emergency operations to include snow removal, storms, and accident clean-up
• Experience performing roadway maintenance or construction activities

Special Instructions:

• Ability to work in diverse conditions, including exposure to weather outdoors in all seasons
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
• References, work history, and DMV records will be verified
• Fingerprint-based criminal history records check required
