Telesat is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Power Systems Designer to join its Infrastructure Engineering team. This is a full-time position in Ottawa, Ontario.

Job Description

The successful candidate will design, develop, review, and maintain corporate electrical systems used at Telesat's earth stations and customer facilities. The incumbent will also participate in consulting projects, provide support and input to the sales team as required, and work with internal stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Design cost-effective electrical systems for satellite earth stations and other facilities.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for electrical system designs.
  • Evaluate existing electrical systems and recommend design modifications or equipment repairs where required.
  • Prepare detailed power systems calculations to develop construction and installation standards and specifications.
  • Work with project managers to ensure projects are satisfactorily completed and are on time and within budget.
Requirements

We are looking for a professional with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five years of related work experience in the Electrical power-engineering field. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or eligibility for registration as a P.Eng in Ontario is also required.

Key Qualifications:
  • Excellent understanding of back-up power systems designs and equipment, such as generators, UPS systems, and DC power plants.
  • Strong understanding of building code and electrical code requirements.
  • Detail-oriented with a firm grasp of engineering best practices pertaining to electrical system design and operations.
  • Strong communication skills, technical writing ability, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
