Job Title: Coordinator, Protection Services Training

Interior Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coordinator, Protection Services Training to join our team. As a key member of the Protection Services leadership team, you will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and delivering a comprehensive training program for Interior Health's Relational Security Model (RSM) that supports the professional and effective delivery of patient-centric healthcare security services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain Protection Services personnel training and development programs, including conducting needs assessments, identifying training needs, and developing and/or customizing training courses, content, and materials.
  • Conduct and facilitate training sessions, presenting information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
  • Maintain training records and compile routine and ad-hoc reports around Protection Services personnel training.
  • Forecast training needs and establish an annual training schedule.
  • Establish and maintain templates for post-orders and site orientation checklists.
  • Provide support in managing operating and capital budgets for the assigned area of responsibility, including budget preparation, control, and reporting of expenditures.
  • Identify and maintain a list of external agencies delivering Basic Security Training, Advanced Security Training, and Occupational First Aid training throughout the region.
  • Ensure that laws and regulations applicable to training standards are reviewed and changes are implemented as necessary.
  • Prepare compliance reports and identify areas for improvement associated with specific policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement a method of measuring the effectiveness of the training programs.
  • Work closely with Workplace Health & Safety to ensure Protection Services training aligns with and complements the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum.
  • Obtain and maintain applicable training certifications.
  • As a member of the Protection Services leadership team, provide after-hours on-call function, as required.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 diploma plus specialized training in security & safety, criminology, emergency management, or other related field.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory and/or management experience in security/safety-related role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity (healthcare experience an asset).
  • Membership with IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety).
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, commitment to operating within a team environment, and the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees, and other partners.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing quality services.
  • Interest in teaching, coaching, managing, and mentoring staff.
  • Proficiency with computers and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to manage human and physical resources within an operating environment.
  • Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector.
  • Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to successfully interact with key internal and external agencies and partners.
  • Valid Canadian drivers license equivalent to a BC Class 5 drivers license without any graduated licensing restrictions.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
