Indigenous Education Assistant

Our organization is highly flexible, offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the Christmas holiday week, and health benefits. Health benefits are offered to full-time permanent employees, who will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their probationary period.

As this position is engaged primarily in serving the interests of Indigenous people, we shall give preference to Indigenous people who possess the requisite skill sets and experience.
The Educational Resource Assistant, under the direction of the Executive Director or Designate, is responsible for providing assistance as a member of the students' learning team in the education and support of students of the Strengthening Hamilton's Aboriginal Education program.
Key qualifications include:
- A 2-year post-secondary diploma in Education, Indigenous Studies, or a combination of equivalent and relevant education;
- Experience working in a community organization and/or experience with Indigenous populations;
- Experience working with youth;
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma and community outreach;
- Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community services and supports;
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR certification is an asset;
- Sufficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications and 365;
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment;
- A valid driver's license with a clear driving record and access to reliable transportation is an asset;
- A satisfactory Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
