Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the hoist and shaft area is maintained in a safe operating condition to meet production needs and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee all electrical and mechanical work on the hoist and shaft equipment, ensuring regular preventative maintenance programs are followed.
  • Inspect the hoist and shaft area on a timely basis to ensure a safe operating mode.
  • Engage with other departments to inform them about matters pertaining to the hoist and shaft area.
  • Organize and coordinate the sending of equipment and materials underground, prioritized by department General Foreperson.
  • Report all problems of a non-routine nature and recommend equipment purchases and personnel needs to meet the needs of the area.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with service providers on matters pertaining to hoist maintenance/repairs, service, and supplies.
  • Supervise all activities of the Hoist and Shaft crews, including assigning work to meet Company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Coordinate personnel resources for the operation of the Hoist and Shaft area.
  • Provide a safe workplace by ensuring all site policies and procedures are stringently adhered to.
  • Work with the training department to ensure crew members' training is completed.

Requirements:

  • A Journeyperson Certificate or an Engineering Degree or Diploma in a discipline/field relevant to hoist operation.
  • Saskatchewan Supervisory Certificate from the Saskatchewan Department of Labour, or ability to obtain one.
  • Training and several years of experience in underground potash operations and in the operation of a hoist and shaft area.
  • Demonstrated positive safety behavior and safety leadership; demonstrated a high level of commitment to creating a safe working environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, coach and correct performance where needed.
  • Superior interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent computer skills are required, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to learn and gain adequate knowledge and experience through training.
