Lead IT Systems Administrator

O'Hanlon Paving, a leading player in Edmonton's road construction industry, is seeking a highly skilled Lead IT Systems Administrator to join its Information Technology team. As a Lead IT Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in supporting our team's success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain IT Systems: Ensure reliable operation of servers, networks, software, and telecommunications systems.
  • Advanced Technical Support: Provide expert troubleshooting for hardware and software issues, acting as an escalation point for complex cases and minimizing downtime.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior analysts, helping develop their technical and customer service skills.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose and resolve recurring issues, implementing solutions to prevent future incidents.
  • System Security: Manage security solutions, perform regular audits, and stay updated on threats.
  • Monitoring: Use tools like Checkmk to proactively identify and address potential system issues.
  • Backup & Recovery: Manage backup processes and disaster recovery plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive system documentation and generate performance and security reports.
  • Cloud Application Support: Provide support for Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe products.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with our IT team on projects and provide assistance to non-technical staff as needed.
  • Customer Service: Ensure high-quality service in responding to IT requests.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum of a 2-year post-secondary diploma or certificate in Information Technology or equivalent required.
  • 8+ years of experience in IT systems administration, providing advanced support in a medium-to-large organization.
  • Expertise in managing network infrastructure, virtualization (XCP-NG), and cloud services (Azure, Google Workspace).
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux Ubuntu, Office 365, Active Directory, GPOs, Firewalls, VLAN, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and HP Switches.
  • Proficiency with remote access technologies such as RDS and Citrix, as well as scripting tools like PowerShell and GAM (Google Workspace Admin).
  • Familiarity with IT service management principles (ITIL) and experience with ticketing systems like Atlassian Jira.
  • Experience in system security, performing regular audits, implementing patches, and staying updated on the latest security best practices.
  • Strong inclination towards process improvement and innovation of operations.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a demonstrated ability to guide and develop junior team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, including conducting root cause analysis and implementing solutions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Certifications in relevant IT areas (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate – MCSA, ITIL Foundation) are an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
