Role Overview

This role is part of our Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation team, which is dedicated to addressing the unique needs of Indigenous patients and improving health outcomes. As a Peer Advocate Coordinator, you will play a critical role in providing culturally safe care and supporting patients and families in their journey towards better health.

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day-to-day peer support and advocacy to patients and families
  • Working collaboratively with Indigenous Wellness Liaisons and other peers to provide culturally safe and meaningful support
  • Acting as a resource for both patients and healthcare providers
  • Supporting peer initiatives and participating in working groups and meetings related to strategic planning and harm reduction

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A deep understanding of Indigenous cultures and practices
  • Valuable lived experience, such as navigating challenges related to systemic racism, intergenerational trauma, substance use, poverty, sex work, or health concerns
  • Strengths in communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
  • An ability to work collaboratively or independently
  • An understanding of the impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and an ability to integrate harm reduction and trauma-informed approaches into your work
