Job Summary

The City of Mississauga is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join its Finance Division. As a key member of the team, you will play a lead role in the City's accounting and financial reporting processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret the City's year-end consolidated financial statements, notes, and disclosures in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Support and coordinate external auditor requests related to year-end and financial statement processing.
  • Support and guide external City agencies on accounting, financial reporting, and external audits.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, ensuring accuracy and meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Support the preparation of the City's annual financial and sustainability report, including analysis of financial results, gathering statistics, and preparing written content.
  • Deliver annual financial reporting submissions as required by the Provincial and Federal governments.
  • Take a lead role as a subject matter expert in researching technical accounting issues, implications of new accounting standards, and their implementation.
  • Implement improvements to financial reporting and internal controls, reducing effort and improving speed and quality of work.
  • Assist and advise business units and the Finance Division on financial reporting and accounting matters.
  • Perform in-depth quality assurance reviews on balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger transactions to maintain high data integrity and quality.
  • Provide support and guidance on accounting and financial reporting automation.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and assist in the closing of period-end and year-end processes.
  • Perform efficiency reviews on accounting and financial reporting processes.
Requirements
  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in preparing or auditing external financial statements, including working with external auditors.
  • Experience in preparing Public Sector financial statements is an asset.
  • Knowledge and use of SAP or other large-scale ERP's is preferred.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, functions, and working with large data sets.
  • Previous experience with financial reporting and accounting automation software is an asset.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including conveying complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • A track record of meeting tight working deadlines and prioritizing work is essential.
  • Experience in Lean thinking or other continuous improvement methodologies is an asset.
  • Knowledge of financial and internal controls.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop, recommend, and implement effective solutions.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to a collaborative environment.
