Job Summary

Ryder is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and trailers, diesel and gasoline engines. The ideal candidate must be enrolled in an apprenticeship program to obtain their provincial certification. As an apprentice mechanic, you will have access to development, guidance, and support from a team of experienced technicians. Additionally, Ryder provides support for continued education and career advancement through tuition reimbursement and higher pay during your apprenticeship. Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers, diesel and gasoline engines, including:
  • Minor repairs to engines or engine components
  • Vehicle inspections
  • Lubrications and oil changes
  • Assist technicians with lubrications and service as needed
  • Maintain a clean workshop
  • Customer relations - interact with internal and external customers
Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Vocational or technical certification post-secondary degree or technical certifications, preferred
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
  • Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
  • Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of computers, intermediate required
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
Work Environment

Ryder is a safety-sensitive employer. This position is non-regulated tech, DOT regulated, and requires a valid CDL CLASS A.
