Safety Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Safety Specialist to contribute to the success of Explore Edmonton Corporation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuing to evolve our safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
This position is responsible for OHS programs at EXPO Centre to ensure the safety of the facility, staff, clients, and guests. This person must consistently convey mature professional judgment, be competent in safety management, systems, and technical knowledge. They should be able to apply them in a work setting with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, providing detailed reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with management to create a culture of safety within the organization.
- Assist in the development of emergency response plans and safety drills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, risk management, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or similar) is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within an event venue, hospitality, or entertainment setting.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and other relevant local, provincial, and federal laws.
- Experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- 5 - 7 years of experience in a Safety Specialist or Advisor role.
- Ability to develop and conduct safety training programs.
- Strong decision-making abilities, especially in emergency situations.
- Highly proficient communicator (both verbal/written).
