Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Instructor in the area of Heavy Duty to join our team. The successful candidate will teach students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The Instructor will develop curriculum, prepare teaching materials, and provide assessments of students' progress.

Key Responsibilities:

* Teach students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments, and independent or group projects.
* Develop curriculum and prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses, including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
* Prepare, administer, and mark papers, tests, exams, and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provide detailed feedback on student performance.
* Assist and provide support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
* Provide individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
* Maintain effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software, and tools.
* Arrange for and supervise independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or hands-on training.
* Adhere to VCC policies and procedures, including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
* Participate in departmental and college meetings and events. Consult with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.

Requirements:

* Trade qualification (Red Seal) in one or both of the following trades: Heavy Duty Mechanic and Commercial Transport Mechanic.
* Completion of an apprenticeship in one or both of the following trades: Heavy Duty Mechanic and Commercial Transport Mechanic.
* Demonstrated recent work experience of at least seven years as a qualified trades person in either of the trades mentioned above.
* Good interpersonal and business communication skills in the English language (oral and written).
* Instructing or work experience as a supervisor for at least two years. This can be used as part of the seven years' experience.
* Valid driver's license (an air endorsement would be considered an asset).
* It would be considered an asset to have up-to-date technical knowledge of late model equipment.
* The candidate should be in the process of obtaining or hold a B.C. Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent credential.
