Key Responsibilities

As a Groundwater Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical support for hydrogeology projects, including regional and local hydrogeologic assessments, contaminated site assessments, regulatory groundwater monitoring programs, and conceptual site model development.

You will lead design and execution of drilling and monitoring programs, support engineering needs for groundwater treatment and dewatering, and lead field programs consisting of collecting soil and groundwater samples, installing monitoring wells, conducting pumping tests and installing, setting up and collecting data sets from groundwater monitoring equipment.

Additionally, you will prepare a variety of technical reports including analyzing, interpreting results and reporting project data, and liaise with clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Geoscientist/Engineer, or eligibility to register as a Professional Geoscientist/Engineer with APEGA
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar role within a consulting environment
  • Practical experience in physical and contaminant hydrogeology including conceptual site model development, groundwater monitoring well network design, groundwater-surface water interaction, drilling and aquifer testing programs, risk assessment, risk management, and working knowledge of the Alberta regulatory environment
  • Experience in the mining sector
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard software packages such as AQTESOLV, Surfer, AccuMap, GeoSCOUT, FEEFLOW and AQUACHEM
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and effective project management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative attitude
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • A valid class 5 driver's license with no restrictions and a clean driving record
