Role Overview

We are seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Lead Commercial Credit Specialist, joining our dynamic team at Equitable Group. This position plays a critical part in our organization's success, overseeing credit underwriting and portfolio management for our commercial division's Multi-family Insured lending group (CMHC).

The successful candidate will lead a team of Managers, underwriters, and analysts, ensuring the prudent underwriting of $8 billion annually of CMHC-insured multi-family loans across Canada. Additionally, they will be responsible for managing a $20 billion portfolio of insured multi-family product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and oversee procedures to assess credit risk thoroughly and within the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Manage, supervise, and mentor the CMHC Credit team to ensure individual responsibilities are completed according to Company policies, procedures, and priorities.
  • Collaborate with the CMHC Credit Managers to manage credit flow, approve or recommend insured mortgage facilities according to assigned delegation of authority, and ensure the portfolio operates within prescribed thresholds.
Requirements
  • A post-secondary education (diploma/degree) in business or finance, preferably with an MBA/CFA.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in multi-family-insured/commercial mortgage lending, with 3-5 years of management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with Senior Management, Partners, and Borrowers.
  • Proven ability to inspire a team to work towards shared goals and objectives.
  • Detailed understanding of macro factors affecting the CMHC-insured multi-family lending environment.
  • High level of integrity and a detail-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated service excellence within their field.
  • In-depth knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and Corporate/Legal documentation for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada.
