Electrical Power Engineer

Telesat is seeking an Electrical Power Engineer to join its Infrastructure Engineering team. The successful candidate will design, develop, review, and maintain corporate electrical systems used at Telesat's earth stations and electrical systems at customer facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design cost-effective electrical systems for satellite earth stations and other facilities.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for electrical system designs.
  • Evaluate existing electrical systems and recommend design modifications or equipment repairs where required.
  • Prepare detailed power systems calculations to develop construction and installation standards and specifications.
  • Work with project managers to ensure projects are satisfactorily completed, on time, and within budget.
  • Direct manufacturing, installing, and testing of electrical equipment to ensure that products meet specifications and codes.
  • Prepare detailed reports to document electrical activities and to ensure smooth handover to the operations team.
  • Analyze customer needs and determine electrical system requirements, capacity, and costs to develop a system plan.
  • Develop maintenance and testing procedures for electrical components and equipment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with electrical equipment suppliers and contractors.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience in the Electrical power-engineering field.
  • Experience with testing and commissioning electrical systems and equipment in the field is an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of back-up power systems designs and equipment, such as generators, UPS systems, and DC power plants.
  • Strong understanding of building code and electrical code requirements.
  • Detail oriented with a firm grasp of engineering best practices pertaining to electrical system design and operations.
  • Strong understanding of the buildings and infrastructure construction process is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, technical writing ability, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate in French (written and oral) is a strong asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other computer-aided design software is considered an asset.
