Financial Operations Role Description

This position will be primarily responsible for partnering with the HPC Operations Accounting Team to provide financial inputs to monitor key business activities. In addition, this role will work closely with our site Turnaround team to develop and deliver timely data and dashboards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide month-end and quarter-end support to the Operations Accounting Team including journal entries, approvals, SOX, and analysis.
  2. Support and mentor junior team members.
  3. Partner with business and provide financial acumen to site decisions.
  4. Support the preparation of the annual operating budget and monthly operating forecasts and assist in the preparation of the annual capital budget.
  5. Support Capital program, AFE development, asset management, and approvals as required.
  6. Analyze, interpret, and provide forward-looking information to present to the senior leadership team for decision-making.
  7. Review costs, improve visibility, and analysis of cost drivers, identify trends, and implications of current costs on future costs, and provide this information to site personnel in a timely manner.
  8. Work with the Turnaround Team to develop reporting standards and improve data accuracy.
  9. Provide thought leadership for continuous improvement ideas and provide analysis and verification of results for ongoing initiatives.
  10. Improve the quality and availability of data and business information, making key financial data readily available to leaders across the Business Unit.
  11. Provide ad-hoc financial analysis for various stakeholders.

Requirements:

  1. CPA designation required.
  2. Post-secondary degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum 5+ years post-qualification experience in a related field, preferably industrial plant experience.
  3. Knowledge and application of IFRS, SOX.
  4. Excellent MS Office skills including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  5. SAP 4 Hana, Maximo experience would be preferred.
  6. Team player, curious, proactive, and enjoy working in a collaborative, supportive team environment.
  7. Strong critical thinking skills.
  8. Exceptional analytical acumen with capacity to identify, scope, and solve complex problems.

Working Arrangements:

This role is based at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC), Strathcona county, approximately 30 km from Edmonton.

This position operates under a 9x80 work schedule, which allows employees to work 80 hours over nine days instead of the usual ten, with one Friday off in every two weeks.

As this position is identified as safety and/or security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, drivers abstract, employment verification, and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
