Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Canadian Armed Forces Full time
Occupation Overview

As a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Operational Physiotherapy Specialists play a crucial role in maintaining the operational readiness of military personnel. They assess and treat musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, ensuring that troops are fit for duty.

The position requires strong clinical skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Operational Physiotherapy Specialists must be able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and treating musculoskeletal injuries and conditions
  • Developing treatment plans to return soldiers to active duty
  • Providing advice and guidance on injury prevention, health promotion, and sports injury education
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
Work Environment

Operational Physiotherapy Specialists work in physiotherapy clinics within Health Care Centres, using manual therapy and soft-tissue techniques. They also have access to physical agents such as cold, heat, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and electrotherapy modalities. Equipment includes conventional tools like weights, pulleys, exercise apparatus, traction tables, dynamometers, assistive devices, orthopedic supplies, ortheses, and splinting, as well as more sophisticated devices like isokinetic-isotonic systems, treadmills, and computerized aerobic-fitness equipment.

When deployed on operations, Operational Physiotherapy Specialists may work in temporary facilities, but their primary focus remains on maintaining and enhancing the operational readiness of Canadian Armed Forces members and supporting the work of other healthcare professionals.

Requirements

To enter this occupation, candidates must be licensed physiotherapists in Canada. A salary range of $70,000-$110,000 per annum is estimated, depending on experience and location.
