Venor, a leading partner of the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN), seeks an experienced Data Science Innovation Lead to spearhead their digital strategy.

As a Data Science Innovation Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of NSCN by leveraging advanced data science techniques to gain insights, optimize operations, and enhance the systems partner experience.

This position intersects technology and business, providing a unique opportunity to influence and innovate at NSCN. You will be responsible for:

Strategic Leadership and Innovation
  • Developing and executing innovative strategies for data management, technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive value for NSCN's systems partners.
  • Leveraging data insights to inform strategic decision-making through close collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and trends in data analysis, business intelligence, and artificial intelligence to ensure NSCN remains at the forefront of innovation.
Data and Technology Integration
  • Ensuring seamless integration of data science applications and AI solutions into existing systems and processes within the broader IT framework.
  • Designing and implementing scalable IT and data infrastructure and analytics platforms in compliance with NSCN's privacy framework.
  • Developing and maintaining advanced data ingestion, processing, modeling, and reporting capabilities to support NSCN's emerging technology and big data analytics needs.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy aligned with IT operations.
  • Recommending innovative technology processes across the organization based on best practices.
Data Governance and Integrity
  • Implementing processes to ensure the integrity of NSCN-collected data and resulting insights, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and meaningfulness to organizational and functional purposes.
  • Establishing processes for presenting NSCN data in reports or presentations to update key stakeholders, including the CEO, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Senior Leadership Team (SLT), service area leads, the Board, and other systems partners.
  • Proactively identifying gaps, deficiencies, and improvements in analytics and research; providing advice and consultation to NSCN decision-makers to address strategic and policy issues.
Team Development and Resource Management
  • Overseeing the IT budget to align with strategic priorities and optimize resource allocation for technology initiatives, infrastructure, and team development.
  • Identifying short- and long-term human resources needs within the team; hiring, training, developing, and evaluating employees accountable to the Director, according to NSCN policies and best practices.
  • Enabling data and AI to innovate and explore, including access to data and a Machine Learning (ML)/AI environment.

We are seeking an experienced professional with:

  • A Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in healthcare, health policy, or regulation.
  • Expertise in developing and maintaining data reporting environments, with experience in analytics tools such as Power BI.
  • Deep knowledge of data governance protocols, data quality programs, and risk assessment strategies.
  • Proven experience working closely with departmental leads and IT to align database strategy with operational goals.
  • Relevant professional and leadership experience in the broader public/private sector, developing data frameworks and strategy, developing research partnerships, and working collaboratively across an organization to develop and integrate evaluation techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing creative and innovative digital solutions.
